Month Theme: The Anointing
Topic: The "On-target" Prayer
Scripture Reading: Acts 10:30-40
Main Text:
James 4:3
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
God does not answer the prayer of the flesh. For prayer to be answered, it must be Spirit-inspired, Spirit-controlled and Spirit-motivated. The anointing must be the driving force behind prayer. Jesus Christ did not pray amiss to gratify His flesh. He did not pray unanswered prayers. Those who are in the flesh, pray amiss.
The reasons we need the Spirit or anointing to overcome the flesh for answered prayer are:
1. Wilderness
- Jesus Christ was led into the wilderness (Luke 4:1). The wilderness is the dry and unfavourable place. You have a wilderness to expect – get ready for it.
2. Weeks
- Jesus Christ was tempted for forty days (Luke 4:2). Forty days represents about six weeks. We may not stay in the wilderness for just hours or days but weeks. We need the Holy Ghost.
3. Wickedness
- The devil is the chief architect of wickedness. He is called the wicked one.
We can only mortify the deeds of the body through the Spirit (Romans 8:13-15). The Spirit is the “killer” of the flesh.
Prayer: Pray that you will always be in the will of God.
