Month Theme: The Anointing
Topic: The Anointing for Marriage
Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 9:1-9; Acts 10:30-40
Main Text:
Ecclesiastes 9:9
9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
After admonishing that believers’ heads be always anointed with oil, Ecclesiastes 9:8-9 mentions the uses of the anointing. One of the areas of life in which we need the anointing is marriage because of the challenges in marriage. We spend A LOT OF TIME in marriage and family with MANY CHALLENGES hence the need for the anointing. The anointing would be IDLE if it does not function in marriage.
The challenges of marriage that make us need the person and anointing of the Holy Ghost are as follows:
1. Living - We are not to endure marriages but to enjoy them – “Live joyfully with the wife…” Joy is the fruit of the Holy Ghost (Galatians 5:22-23). Many people are practically dead in their marriages.
2. Loving - Love is not an act of the flesh. Agape love is the kind of love that must be in a marriage. “…whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity…”
3. Leaving - “…for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.” Without the anointing, we may be deluded into thinking that life on earth is forever and there is no life after life on earth (John 16:13).
To claim to have the anointing when your family life is disintegrating is to deceive yourself (Hebrews 13:4). Your anointing must beautify and enrich your family with love before it steps out of the door to cast out devils.
Prayer: Pray concerning your marriage, even if you're yet to have a spouse, that it will be joyous all the days of your life.
